The Lumineers to Start Your Long Holiday Weekend

Pin It now! Hi last day of August.  I'm starting to slowly ease into the end of summer. Very slowly. I'm trying to hold on as long as I can, but you can tell the weather is getting a little chilly at night and in the mornings.  It's definitely get darker out earlier too.  Suck every ounce of summer out of this last unofficial weekend of the summer!

The Lumineers are one of my new favorite bands and I've listened to Ho Hey about a million times
already.  If you haven't already heard of them, they're a Denver-based folk rock band (although Wikipedia says they're originally from Ramsey, NJ - yay, tri-state! - and you know Wikipedia is always right).  They sort of remind me of Rusted Root - does anyone remember this band from the 90's?  I used to love them in my hippie, folky, grungy 90's days.  Anyway, I'm loving their sound and Ho Hey is one of those songs you can put in a soundtrack if your life were made into a movie or video montage (and you know how I really love that).

A Weekend in DC

Michael and I headed to DC this past weekend to see the cherry blossoms and to visit some friends.  I've been tracking the blossoms on when they would be at their peak and because of the warm weather this season, they peaked pretty early but it looks like we missed it by a few days.  It was a gorgeous 80 degrees on Friday, but we brought the rain for Saturday and most of Sunday.  Too bad because by the time we walked around the Mall on Sunday, most of the blossoms were already blown away and scattered on the ground.  Scott and his girlfriend Bobbi showed us the most amazing time eating, drinking and touring DC though. 

We stopped off at Scott's place in Georgetown which is right by a stretch of the quaintest houses.  We started our food and drinking tour at Clyde's for drinks, then pizza at Pizza Paradiso.  We took a boat tour along the Potomac and although it was a little too rainy and foggy to see the a lot of the blossoms or the monuments, it was perfect to tour along the river without getting soaked.  After visiting the International Spy Museum (which was so much fun, interactive and gigantic), we started the night at the Gordon Biersch Brewery and Michael suggested going for karaoke at Muzette which led to more karaoke at Peyote Cafe (which started with only the four of us there and ended with a huge dance party singing Somewhere Out There and Buddy Holly...among others).  Top. Night. Out.  Enough said.  Then we uber-ed home...I think in an Escalade.  Yeah, we never uber-ed either but it seems like Scott and Bobbi uber all the time. 

Good thing we slept in late on Sunday and had an Italian buffet break at Filomena (aka all you can eat pasta) because we must have walked for miles from Georgetown to the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Memorial, Korean War, WWII Memorial, and then food and drink pitstops at Old Ebbitt Grill (DC's oldest bar) and Cap City Brewery.  We treated ourselves Sunday night and stayed at the St. Gregory (with an upgrade to a junior suite).  Even though we were on vacation, I still love relaxing and watching Sunday night TV.   Thanks for a wonderful time!
