My Famous Brother
Pin It now!
My brother's company made Crain's Fast 50 list and you can spy a second of him at minute 2:14. It's pretty cool...here are others that made the rest of the list.

Surprise Showers and Bowling
Pin It now!
Today I had two very different work events. The first was a surprise bridal shower for one of my co-workers. She had no idea we were setting up the large conference room with streamers, cake and lots of food. She came in thinking there was a big meeting, notebook and all. It was the perfect surprise though, and you can't go wrong with cake from Magnolia. Love the bride cake topper.

Love the bride cake topper.I then met up with co-workers from my old group for bowling at Frames in the Port Authority. I am a terrible bowler! Seriously, I actually bowled a 35 one time! Tonight I wanted to hit at least 100. I didn't get triple digits but I came close - 88. We're going bowling again in a couple of weeks so I have to redeem myself. By the way, have you been to Frames? It's really nice in there! It has a lounge and restaurant too so if you need a quick bite before catching your bus, it's the perfect place.

Quarterly Review
Pin It now!
At work, I do a lot of reviews on a quarterly basis so I figure I might as well do the same for my personal life. Keeps me in check and I make sure I'm pushing myself. Ok, remember I made a to-do list back in January? I think I'm doing pretty well.
Work - It's been five months in my new role and I really love it. It's definitely challenging and things aren't second nature yet, but I feel like I'm sinking into the role. I'm an impatient person though and when my mind runs faster than my body or faster than the skills I can acquire, I just want to get there already. I know, patience is a virtue... The new role has allowed me to develop new and existing relationships which was the key thing I was lacking from my old position. I really love that I have a foot in the door and not invisible to the right people.
Fluent in Cantonese - Not yet, but I did sign up for a class that begins in mid-April More to come.
52 Week Project - So far so good! I absolutely love this item on my list. Every week I look forward to figuring out where and what to photograph. I'm trying not to be too cliche and am trying to find things that are outside the ordinary course. I think I might start photographing things beyond places in NYC and items that are relevant to what's happening in my life for that week (like the blood oranges).
A few other things that I'm adding...
Running. I'm up to 2 miles and getting pass the two mile mark is definitely motivating me to keep pushing to the full 3.1 miles for the Special Olympics Lincoln Tunnel Challenge in a couple of weeks. Unlike two years ago, I think I can actually run the entire thing!
Writing. I'm not sure how to go about this one. I want to write more, and something along the lines of a legal article for work or relevant Brooklyn articles for the Examiner (no, this blog doesn't count). I'm still figuring this one out so if you have any suggestions, let me know! On top of writing more substantively, I also want to document more of my family's story. I'm pretty sure I may have said I wanted to do this last year and I keep putting off starting the project. So now it's on the to-do list...

First Day
Pin It now!
it was the first day of my new job today. i transferred groups within my company and i felt like the new kid in school even though i've been at the firm for five years. i really liked what i did and i was good at it, but i was plateauing and getting very comfortable in the position. i wouldn't have been able to grow or develop as much as i would have liked so it was time to move on. luckily there was a position open in another group that would have fitted me really well. i spoke with my then-boss, which was very awkward, but he was understanding and helped facilitate the transfer. fast forward three months later (after having to find a replacement for my old job), and i'm here at my first day of work again. i'm nervous and excited and ready to take on a new challenge... and desperately need to learn powerpoint!

I Feel Pretty
Pin It now!
i'm on day 4 of feeling fabulous at work and it's because i like what i'm wearing. it's sad, but if i can't stand what i'm wearing for the day, i feel uncomfortable and can't work properly. last fall, i was lazy (laziness is definitely a pattern of mine - so bad!) and i would just wear black pants and a top and blazer or a button-down shirt. so boring. but coming back from london where the ladies are much more professionally chic, i was inspired. so it's 4 days of being creative in what i wear, and looking professional and fabulous.
