Lately

Pin It now! Sorry everyone, I was gone for the last few weeks (if you didn't already notice!).  I was overwhelmed and unmotivated, a terrible combination for someone who blogs.  I kept reading through other blogs that are over the top fabulous and I wanted to be just as creative, but everything I put together seemed blah and forced.  I felt like I lacked direction, so I stopped writing (to spare you too!).  I'm back, I think...Let's just get back to what I know and like to do and not care how pretty it's all supposed to be because at the end, what you love is what is best.

So what's been happening lately... Kentucky Derby at Maison Premiere, our ridiculously relaxing vaca in the Dominican Republic, BBQs, wonderfully hot days for the Memorial Day weekend, the best fried chicken dinner at Brooklyn Star, Madison Square Eats, having my semi-homeless sister as a house guest for a couple of weeks, finally putting up the perfect Etsy Brooklyn prints in the entryway, two weddings in Long Island, Cafeteria with Alysse, Turkish with the NJ girls, less buying and more spring cleaning, and saying good-bye to the house we grew up in.

Home in NJ

Pin It now! this weekend my sister and i went home to my parents' house in nj. i haven't visited since december and the visit is long overdue! i love being back here...it's home after all. it's comfy and homey...all the good things that make coming home so sweet. my parents had an anniversary dinner tonight, so i made dinner for my sister and i - fresh jersey corn, a thick rib eye steak (secret homemade steak sauce) and veggies with a healthy dab of butter. for dessert, my mom made a big pot of red bean soup. obviously i don't have much else to blog about so i'm just going to show you a picture of what i made.

I Miss Home

Pin It now! i do. i know i'm not supposed to say that because it'll seem like i'm complaining about being lucky enough to be sent to london for 3 months and have the opportunity to experience this amazing part in my life. i miss home though. i miss my husband, i miss the 5 inches of rain nyc had this weekend, i miss walking through the craziness that is nyc. i only started feeling this way this past week (except for the hubby part). i can't say that the newness of living in a new city has worn away because it definitely hasn't. i love the fact that i learn something "english" every day (including the the london bus tranportation system and the part when i didn't know i was at the last bus stop even though everyone got off the bus and gave me strange faces as i let them pass by me). i think it's because i came here with a purpose - to whip my london work counterparts into shape. they've come a really long way and i've done the best and most i can do at work. maybe i feel like my services here are no longer needed. or maybe i'm tired of getting lost on another touristy trip i plan for myself (which makes me realize that my dreams to be on amazing race with hubby are over - i won't subject us to the kind of torture that would result from my horrible sense of direction). no, i'm not complaining, i'm just venting. don't worry, this will be the only time.

Home in the Garden State

Pin It now! i'm back in my parents' house in nj for the weekend. they needed help doing a major fall house cleaning so i "volunteered" to come home. actually the converation with my mom went like this:
me: "oh, i wanted to come home to visit this weekend."
mom: "great, come for the whole weekend. i need you to clean the windows."

being the guilt-ridden oldest child, i came home. and cleaned the windows. including the screens. i'm glad i don't own a house. or maybe i should have kids soon so when it's time to clean the windows, they'll be old enough for child labor.

i love being home though. they're something about being in the house you grew up in after you've moved away that makes you feel like a kid again. i also like how quiet it is in the suburbs. the only sound at night are the occassional cars that drive by. no honking, no firetrucks, no people shouting outside your window. i slept like a baby last night.
